nOISE REDUCTION BARRIER

COMPETITION, HONG KONG

2012

Armco crash barriers are a familiar sight on roads across the world, they are synonymous with the language of the highway. In this proposal, these profiled, steel barriers are celebrated, woven into a twisting, sinuous thread through the city, seamlessly transitioning from simple crash protection to a dynamic tunnel of texture.

The noise mitigation structure is about the notion of transportation, the flow of vehicles and the complexity of the road network. This proposal is as much about enhancing the experience of travelling on the expressway as it is about reducing sound pollution and the impact on the locality.

This scheme venerates the infrastructure of the city, creating a modern, thrilling structure that itself accelerates through the urban fabric.
