Mirrors visually fracture the wall, creating fissures in the fabric of the prison, however these windows only show the sky; when incarcerated, all you can glimpse of the outside world. The sky represents freedom. A tiered platform in dark stained plywood recedes into the imagined; dark space inhabits the prison compound. The seating/standing levels form an arena which defines the public space, it creates a focal point in the yard, a place for performance, for play, for interaction. _not guilty.

Detour is an annual event which forms part of the Business of Design Week in Hong Kong. The event is a showcase and vehicle for local design talent. This proposal was shortlisted for the central event space in 2010, set within the walls of Victoria Prison at the Central Police Station.
