Client: Cumbria Tourism
This £1.6m GBP project in the heart of the Lake District National Park provided a new headquarters building for the local tourist board, which was also renamed “Cumbria Tourism”. Their staff; previously spread throughout multiple, rundown buildings across the area, the group was seeking a new, modern home which embraced local craftsmanship and materials.
The project involved substantial alteration to an existing building including an additional floor and new roof as well as a new double height entrance lobby and total interior refurbishment.
A material palette of local slate, reclaimed oak, concrete and galvanised steel were used to embrace the working village whilst providing a fresh, contemporary feel in their application.
Alex Jones was Project Architect and undertook the development from design through to implementation.
